Frequently Asked Questions

Straight answers about what TachMinder does, who it is for, what it costs, and how it works for Part 91 general aviation pilots and the mechanics who service their aircraft.

About TachMinder

What is TachMinder?

TachMinder is an AI-powered aircraft maintenance tracking app built for general aviation pilots flying under FAA Part 91. It tracks recurring maintenance, monitors Airworthiness Directive (AD) compliance, sends smart reminders before inspections come due, and includes an AI maintenance advisor you can ask questions in plain English.

Who is TachMinder for?

TachMinder is built for general aviation aircraft owner-operators and partnerships who maintain their own records under FAA Part 91, as well as the A&P mechanics and maintenance shops who service those aircraft. It is not designed for airlines or large fleet operators.

Is TachMinder available yet?

TachMinder is in public beta. You can start a 14-day free trial from the TachMinder homepage — no credit card required.

Maintenance Tracking

Does TachMinder track both tach time and Hobbs time?

Yes. TachMinder tracks both tach time (engine RPM-adjusted time) and Hobbs time (clock time) separately. Maintenance items can be set to come due by tach hours, Hobbs hours, or calendar date — so you always know exactly when something is due.

Can I track maintenance by calendar date as well as by hours?

Yes. Every maintenance item can be tracked by tach hours, Hobbs hours, calendar months, or a 'whichever comes first' combination — because real-world maintenance intervals often use more than one trigger.

Can I upload photos of my paper logbook?

Yes. TachMinder lets you upload photos and PDFs of logbook pages, receipts, and work orders, so your maintenance history is searchable and backed up alongside your tracked items.

Does TachMinder include a calendar view and a squawk list?

Yes. A visual maintenance calendar and a squawk list are included on every TachMinder plan.

AD Compliance

Does TachMinder track Airworthiness Directives (ADs)?

Yes. TachMinder helps you monitor Airworthiness Directives for your specific airframe, engine, propeller, and installed appliances, and shows your compliance status at a glance with links to verify against the FAA.

Does TachMinder replace the FAA's AD database?

No. The FAA's Airworthiness Directive database is the sole authoritative source for AD information. TachMinder helps you stay organized between checks, but you should always verify AD applicability and compliance status through official FAA channels.

The AI Advisor

What is "Ask TachMinder"?

"Ask TachMinder" is the built-in AI maintenance advisor. You can ask plain-English questions about your aircraft's maintenance status, upcoming work, or what an AD means, and get answers grounded in your actual aircraft data.

Is the AI advisor limited on lower-priced plans?

No. Full, unlimited access to the AI advisor and proactive AI alerts is included on every TachMinder plan. AI is the core of the product and is never gated or metered by tier.

For Mechanics & Shops

Can my A&P mechanic use TachMinder too?

Yes. TachMinder has a dedicated provider experience for A&P mechanics and maintenance shops. Providers can link to your aircraft, submit maintenance completions, log squawks, and push updates — all of which go through an approval queue so nothing touches your record without your explicit acceptance.

How do updates from my mechanic reach my records?

Provider updates go through a two-step process: the provider confirms they are working on the correct aircraft, then you review and accept each update before it is added to your record. Nothing changes your maintenance history without your approval.

Pricing & Billing

How much does TachMinder cost?

TachMinder has separate plans for aircraft owners and maintenance providers. Owner plans: Pilot is $24/month (1 aircraft) and Partnership is $34/month (up to 3 aircraft, shared co-owner access). Provider plans: a Free tier, A&P Pro at $49/month, and Shop at $99/month. Every paid plan includes full AI features.

Is there a free trial?

Yes. Every paid TachMinder plan includes a 14-day free trial. Choosing annual billing saves you the cost of two months compared to paying monthly.

Safety

Are safety features locked behind a paywall?

Never. Safety-critical information like overdue ADs or lapsed inspections is visible to every TachMinder user regardless of their subscription tier. Safety features are never gated.

Is TachMinder a substitute for my A&P mechanic?

No. TachMinder is an informational tool that helps you stay organized and informed — it is not a substitute for a certified A&P mechanic or IA. Only certificated mechanics and appropriately rated repair stations can approve return-to-service.
