Getting connected to a client's aircraft

Before you can see a client's aircraft in TachMinder, the owner has to grant you access — every link between a mechanic and an aircraft is owner-granted, and the owner can revoke it at any time. There are three ways a connection gets made.

Three paths to a connection

  1. Request access by tail number

You look up the aircraft by its N-number and send an access request. The owner sees the request on their side and approves (or declines) it. Nothing is shared until they approve.
  2. Accept an owner's invitation

The owner invites you by email from their aircraft page. You accept the invitation, and the link is live — the owner already consented by sending it.
  3. Create a managed client profile (Pro and Shop tiers)

For a client who isn't on TachMinder yet, Pro- and Shop-tier mechanics can create a "managed" placeholder profile for that client's aircraft. When the owner later signs up and adds the tail, the placeholder auto-links to their real account — your work history carries over, and the owner is in control from that point on.

What you can see once connected

A connected mechanic sees the aircraft's maintenance history, maintenance schedules, AD status, outstanding squawks, and current times — the context you actually need before the airplane shows up at your shop. You do not see the owner's cost or billing data; what they spend stays their business.

Who controls the link

  • Access is always owner-granted. Every path above ends with the owner having said yes — either by approving your request, sending the invitation, or adding their tail to a managed profile's aircraft.
  • Owners can revoke at any time. A revoked link simply ends your visibility into that aircraft.
  • The owner remains the records custodian. The aircraft record belongs to the owner; your entries carry your signature and certificate information, but the record itself is theirs to keep.

Getting started

From /provider, start with whichever path fits: if the client is already on TachMinder, request access by tail number or ask them to send you an invitation. If they aren't, and you're on a Pro or Shop plan, set up a managed profile so your side of the record is ready when they arrive.

TachMinder is an informational tool only. It is not a substitute for a certified A&P mechanic or IA. Only certificated mechanics and appropriately rated repair stations can approve return-to-service. Always verify Airworthiness Directive data with the FAA AD database (drs.faa.gov). TachMinder does not certify airworthiness.
