Editing aircraft details without breaking your records

The Edit aircraft page covers your aircraft's identity (tail number, make and model, serials, engine type, propeller), its times, key dates, and a handful of flags. Most fields are what they look like — but a few have behaviors worth understanding before you change them.

Changing make, model, or engine type

These three fields define what your aircraft is, so changing one triggers a confirmation:

  1. Confirm the identity change

The app asks you to confirm, because the change cascades beyond the one field.
  2. AD research re-runs

TachMinder re-runs AD research against the new identity, so the directives being tracked match the airplane you actually have.
  3. Templates re-seed, custom items survive

Manufacturer maintenance templates are re-seeded for the new make, model, and engine — and your custom items are preserved.

The annual inspection date

Per §91.409, the annual is due 12 calendar months after completion, on the last day of the month. The form asks you for the completion date — when the IA signed it off — and computes the due date from there. You don't calculate the last-day-of-month arithmetic yourself. (Aircraft on an approved progressive inspection program follow a different schedule under §91.409 — if that's you, your program's timeline governs.)

Engine install tach and date

Recording when your engine was installed, and the tach reading at that moment, lets engine time derive automatically from your logged flights instead of being hand-edited. It's one number, entered once, that keeps a whole clock honest — see Logging flights for why the flight log is the stream everything derives from.

Meter replacement

If a tach or Hobbs meter was physically replaced, mark it here. A new meter usually starts from a lower reading than the old one, and without the flag, new readings would be rejected for going backwards. Marking the replacement resets the running baseline from the replacement date; your past entries remain in the record untouched. One caution: this reset isn't reversible in the app, so mark it only when the meter really was replaced.

Former registrations

If your aircraft changed tail numbers, record the old tail here. That tells the document-upload guard that paperwork filed under the former registration still belongs to this aircraft — otherwise the tail-number mismatch would block it. Details in Uploading documents.

The IFR-equipped flag

Marking the aircraft IFR-equipped enables IFR-specific tracking on the Compliance tab — see Compliance and VOR checks.
